Reverse Osmosis is a process in which dissolved inorganic solids (such as salts) are removed from a solution (such as water). This is accomplished by household water pressure pushing the tap water through a semipermeable membrane. When household water pressure pushes water through the RO membrane and additional filters, such as sediment or carbon filters, the impurities are filtered out and subsequently flushed down the drain. What is left, is delicious, clean-tasting drinking water. 

Because reverse osmosis is a slow process, most systems use a tank to store pre-treated water which is then available for immediate use. This adds complexity and cost, and the tank must be maintained to keep water clean.  With the PRF-FO, a tank is not needed because it has an exceptionally fast flow rate, up to 1-1//2 liters per minute. And because it uses existing water pressure, an electric pump is not needed. This makes for a compact unit that is especially suitable for small homes or apartments where space is at a premium.

Continuous flow means you always have filtered water when you want it. You aren't limited by a tank. That means you have an almost unlimited supply of pure filtered water for drinking, cooking, coffee, tea, ice, rinsing veggies, and even aquariums. And the tankless system is efficient, with a constant 29% recovery rate - meaning only 3 liters waste water for each liter of purified water. Tank systems can have a less than 10% recovery rate, meaning 10 liters of waste water for each liter of purified water.
